Jake Tuimaualuga is an accomplished immigration attorney who joins Wasatch Defense Lawyers as Of Counsel, bringing specialized expertise in the critical intersection of criminal defense and immigration law.

Many defendants don’t realize that a criminal conviction—even for seemingly minor offenses—can trigger deportation, inadmissibility, or denial of citizenship. Jake works alongside Wasatch Defense Lawyers’ criminal defense team to identify immigration risks before plea agreements are finalized, ensuring clients understand the full consequences of their decisions.

Jake has extensive experience reviewing plea agreements and conviction records for crimes involving moral turpitude and aggravated felonies—two categories that carry severe immigration consequences. He has worked with noncitizens with regards to marijuana charges and retail theft cases, analyzing how these convictions affect immigrants’ legal status and providing strategic guidance to minimize immigration harm. Jake handles the full spectrum of immigration matters including removal proceedings, deportation defense, asylum applications, adjustment of status, consular processing, and visa petitions. He is licensed to practice in Utah and the District of Columbia.

Prior to his work at ImmiVisa Law Group, Jake practiced at Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP in New York, where he handled complex immigration cases for corporate clients. He also practiced at Wilner & O’Reilly Immigration Law in Salt Lake City.

If you or your client are not a U.S. citizen and facing criminal charges, Jake can help evaluate the immigration consequences and work with your criminal defense attorney to develop strategies that protect both your freedom and your immigration status. Don’t let a conviction cost you your green card, visa, or chance at citizenship.
