Attorney Bio

Paul H. Johnson grew up on a potato farm in Idaho Falls, Idaho, learning at a young age to care for livestock, operate farm equipment, and perform all types of farm labor, as well as being exposed to all aspects of the family farming business. After graduating from high school and attending one year of college, he served a two-year Christian mission in Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, and a minor in Japanese. In order to pay for college, he spent his summers as a member of the International Laborer’s Union working as a laborer and form-setter on a commercial cement crew, traveling to worksites all over Southeastern Idaho, Southwestern Wyoming and Southwestern Montana. He graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law, spending his last year of law school as a visiting student at the BYU Law School. He has been married to his wife, Andrea (who is employed as an accountant for Meadow Gold Dairies), for 29 years, and they have three children, ages 23 (Max), 19 (Mikaela), and 15 (Miles). Like most people, he enjoys getting together with his co-workers after work to talk about work, but outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family and being a sports fan, particularly concerning the Utah Jazz and BYU football.

During his 36-year legal career, Paul has had a wide breadth and variety of legal experience, serving as a judicial law clerk for two different District Court judges, working as a criminal prosecutor, acting as in-house corporate counsel for three different companies–a hard-money lender, a credit repair firm, and a nutritional supplement manufacturer–being employed as an administrative hearing officer for DCFS on civil child abuse cases, and engaging in private law practice, both as a sole practitioner and as a member of several law firms. Paul has significant legal experience in the practice areas of personal injury, civil and business litigation, appeals, collections and creditor bankruptcy, consumer law and credit repair, estate planning, corporate law and regulatory compliance, family law, and juvenile and criminal law. Paul currently practices primarily in the area of criminal defense law in both adult and juvenile court, but also handles some related, “spin-off” family law and juvenile law matters for his criminal defense clients. Paul’s professional credo is “helping good people in trouble,” and he truly enjoys assisting his clients in exploring and attempting to implement the best outcomes for their legal issues.
